Y GIG YN CYMERADWYO TREIAL AR GYFER CŴN SY'N CANFOD CANSER Y PROSTATD

NHS APPROVES TRIAL FOR DOGS DETECTING PROSTATE CANCER
Margaret Davies

Canser y prostad bellach yw’r canser mwyaf cyffredin ymhlith dynion yn y DU a bob dydd mae mwy na 112 yn cael diagnosis o’r clefyd. Gydag 1 o bob 3 o ddynion yn cael eu methu trwy’r lefel bresennol o brofion, mae Medical Detection Dogs, elusen sy’n gweithio gydag ymddiriedolaethau’r GIG a phrifysgolion, wedi cael cymeradwyaeth gan Ysbyty Prifysgol Milton Keynes ar gyfer mwy o dreialon yn gweithio ochr yn ochr â chŵn datgelu sydd wedi’u hyfforddi gan yr elusennau. Dywed yr elusen, “os gall cŵn arogli canser y brostad o sampl wrin mae’r siawns yn uchel o ganlyniadau ymchwil arogli cŵn, y gellir datblygu prawf sy’n llawer gwell na’r prawf PSA (antigen penodol i’r brostad).” Dangosodd ei astudiaeth gyntaf y gall cŵn sydd wedi'u hyfforddi'n arbennig ganfod canser y prostad mewn wrin mewn 93% o achosion.
