Close shave! British man took his dog for a trim in China and was shocked when his pooch returned nearly bald
Leigh Simmons, 27, said his instructions to the groomer were lost in translation.
The Sun reports that a British man who took his dog for a trim at a Chinese groomers was given a shock when the pooch was returned to him with a very close shave.
Leigh Simmons, 27 lives in Shenzan, China with his wife Kat.
The couple, who are originally from South Wales, adopted stray dog Seren after seeing her wandering the streets. Leigh, who works as a teacher, was planning to give his pet a trim himself but instead decided to take her to the groomers. But Leigh, who doesn’t speak Mandarin, found his grooming instructions lost in translation as the groomer didn’t speak any English.
When Leigh returned to pick his pet up from the shop he was shocked to find Seren was nearly bald and the German Shepard cross had been shaved to look like a show poodle. The pup was left with a thick mane on her head, a bushy tip of the tail and fluffy ginger socks - but shaved bald everywhere else.
Leigh said: “I wanted to shave the dog for the summer. It’s really hot here at the moment. The woman spoke no English and I speak very, very little Chinese. I ended up miming shaving the dog and I made a ‘bzzz’ sound. The woman nodded and told me to come back at four.”
Leigh said he started laughing when he came back to fetch Seren and saw what had happened. The teacher added: “I could barely stand up, I was laughing so much. The poor women working there were so confused. They looked embarrassed, like they were worried I wasn’t going to pay them. But I did. It cost me roughly ten pounds.”
He added: “Everyone in China has a Poodle. Lots of them have this style. I just didn’t think at the time that the French Poodle look that you see in films was the standard model for shaving dogs out here. When I brought her home my wife was shocked. Weirdly enough though, since the shave, Chinese people have been a lot more friendly with Seren. I think the haircut shows that she’s taken care of.”
