Duck cheers up dog who was depressed for two years after his best friend died

Two years ago, George the dog lost his best friend, a labrador named Blackie.

Duck & DogMetro reports that they’d been best friends for twelve years. They played together, lived together, and loved each other.

When Blackie died, George’s owner, Jacquie Litton, said that George was overcome with grief. He fell into a serious sad spell, refusing to play or run around the way he used to. But then a few weeks ago, a duck showed up. And everything changed. The duck appeared without warning on Jacquie’s porch one day, and immediately waddled over to George.

They formed an instant bond.

‘We have no idea where this duck came from but he sure does love George and since the duck has arrived George has not cried one time,’ wrote Jacquie on Facebook.

George and the duck are now inseparable, going on walks together, sleeping next to each other in the kennel, and spending quiet time together when George needs a rest. Jacquie is even planning to upgrade the house’s bird bath to a proper tub, so the duck can get cosy in the house and think of it as a permanent home.

‘Since the duck has showed up, he’s been fine,’ Jacquie told WKWOW. ‘He’s not wanted in the house. He’s not whined. He’s not meeting you at the car, ya know, looking sad. ‘They’re totally different species, and they’ve found company and comfort in each other.’
