Police dog finds gun and accidentally fires it!

A Canadian police dog jumped the gun when his handlers were called to a street fight this week… by inadvertently firing a pistol it found in a bush.

Metro reports that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were called to a food shop car park in Alberta on Thursday after reports of a fight in which a gun was seen.

Whilst tracking two suspects the dog found a gun at the edge of the parking lot. An RCMP spokesman said: "During the recovery by the police dog, the trigger was activated and a shot was fired from the handgun."

Despite being shocked the police dog was not injured and the police confirmed there were ‘no civilians’ in the area at the time. RCMP added officers were called when two men assaulted a third in an incident in which a gun was seen but not fired.

Earlier this month another Canadian police dog was welcomed back on duty after being stabbed in the line of duty. Jester was stabbed four times in the head whilst trying to apprehend a burglar who had entered a school.

The Calgary Police Department waited with baited breath as Jester, a five year veteran on the force, fought for his life at hospital. He recovered in six weeks and after several vets gave him a clean bill of health, both mentally and physically, he was allowed back on duty.

Sgt. Jim Gourley told Global News Canada: "He’s the exact same dog, other than having a few more scars than he had before. He’s definitely in the prime of his career. These handlers love coming to work and working with their partners as a tool to help in police work, when they don’t have their partners there, it’s not the same."
