Meet Sven and Olaf - the Newfoundland dog and mallard duck who are best friends
Sven and Olaf are a pair of besties who do everything together.
Metro reports that from going to the shops and for sunset walks to swimming in their paddling pool and cuddling, they are inseparable. Jessie Vallier, 33, rescued Olaf and Sven one month apart, and it didn’t take long at all for the two to bond.
The horseback riding instructor from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, USA, said: ‘Their relationship is so natural, they’ve been super close since the start and are still going strong two years later.
‘They share such a great bond, it’s so wonderful to see. They absolutely love doing everything together. ‘We have a small paddling pool where Sven will lay down, and Olaf will jump in to hang with him.
‘They’re honestly in their own little world all of the time, and each day to them is like a new adventure. ‘One of my favourite memories I have of them both is when they first met.
‘I was calling for Sven in the garden and when he wasn’t running to me, I went to look for him, only to find him floating in the pool with Olaf.
‘Other favourite moments include the pair playing with my sons – they all adore each other, and it’s always a cause for great laughter and joy.’
Mum-of-two Jessie has taken to sharing the pair’s adorable exploits online, where they’ve proven very popular.
She said: ‘We got Olaf with a few other ducks, but unfortunately lost the others to a coyote attack.
‘So, when Sven came into the picture, Olaf just sort of imprinted on him and hasn’t left his side since. ‘It’s kind of like they’ve formed their own little wolf pack.
‘I read somewhere that if you get a female duck for your male, she will be his main focus. ‘So, I did that for Olaf, but he just runs away from her. He was terrified of her for about two weeks, and he’d run over to Sven not knowing what else to do.
‘He definitely thinks he’s a dog too at this point and is more interested in hanging out with Sven than his lady friend.’
The friendship Sven and Olaf share has even inspired Jessie to write a book called The Adventures of Biss and Olee, which has already sold 1000 copies.
She said: ‘Lots of people on social media, as well as family and friends, encouraged me to write a book on what they get up to, so I thought it would be a lovely idea.
‘We released it not long ago, and it’s already sold really well. ‘The book is called The Adventures Of Biss And Olee because that’s what my sons call Sven and Olaf.
‘Since releasing the book, we’ve done readings and gone to book stores with Sven and Olaf in tow, and they’ve loved it, especially the attention they get from all of the kids and adults there.
‘I love receiving messages on social media from people telling me how much seeing the duo has made their day.
‘It’s just lovely to share their journey with as many people as possible, and to spread joy.’
